Melograno

early music ensemble

Delving into the past to reimagine the future.

Winner of the Rheinsberg competition and of the title Rheinsberger Hofkapelle 2026/27, Melograno’s focus on French music and Bach’s family connects the past and the future, while inviting audiences to experience the truth and depth behind this virtuosic repertoire.

Melograno.

The pomegranate, ancient symbol of luxury, abundance, passion, and luck. It symbolises the beginning and the end, alpha and omega: it is the moment where past and future meet. As an ensemble, we draw inspiration from the many-faceted symbolism of this evocative fruit. We seek to represent the conjunctive point between the past and the future. By relying on a thorough research of historical context and practices, we look ahead and seek to create a visionary approach to early music that will continue in merit beyond the contemporary.

Talent and passion

We're not here to follow trends — we look for real meaning and want to share it with others.

Our ensemble was formed around our discovery of our shared love for French music and the compositions of J.S. Bach. For all of us, it is a common language: coming back to this repertoire always feels like coming home. It offers comfort, a feeling of understanding, space for intuition and authentic expression of the artistic self. It is an infinite source of inspiration: both intellectually and aesthetically. These are wonderful qualities, bringing hope and grounding, and we wish to share these values with our audiences.

Lully’s beloved Passacaille d’Armide is our first single — and is available across all major streaming platforms.

  • “Ye witnesses to our profound love,
Who observe my law in this happy place,
Occupy the hero I love with agreeable delights,
    Until my return…”

Our arrangement of the famous Passacaille from Lully’s “Armide” is a touching masterpiece which reflects various nuances of human experience and to us, that’s exactly why it remains individually moving and relevant to this day. As we ponder questions of love, charm, pleasure, and truth, the Passacaille enables us to consider the ties and balance between love and loss, pleasure and sacrifice.

It’s a piece which has a very special place in our hearts and we can’t wait for you to hear it.

You listen to it on Spotify, iTunes and other platforms. To quote Armide herself, “Pleasures will be with you, always.” 😉

Insight and curiosity

Through every step of our journey, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, real, enriching experiences.

While our ensemble members have been active in the field of early music for years, we do not shy away from delving into other genres of music and fields of art. Mainstream classical repertoire, contemporary and experimental music with electronics, and interdisciplinary collaborations with dancers and other artists all lend themselves to the broadening of the artistic palette that inspires the multidimensional identity of Melograno.

Based on our broad experience, it is our intent to create a multifaceted and captivating artistic identity that celebrates virtuosity and professionalism in ensemble work, as well as the intellectual and emotional depth that is inherent in the music of the High Baroque. By fostering artistic freedom while relying on expert research of historical practices, we wish to bring early music closer to the people of the 21st century. We want our values of togetherness, understanding, and authenticity to guide us towards audiences that find solace and inspiration in experiencing this incredible music in person.
